Hybrid CV

Many people opt for a combination of the Functional and Chronological CV styles, showing key skills and functional expertise as well as a career chronology. Some people refer to this as the hybrid CV, it is designed to give the best of both the Chronological CV and the Functional CV. This is the direction along which CVs have more recently evolved. The hybrid CV would demonstrate that you are abreast of the current trends within human resources.

Here you have the normal header with the name in bold above the address. Next you insert your personal profile, as with the Chronological CV, or you can run straight into your core competencies, some people prefer the term key strengths or key skills.

Due to having your competencies described in the first section of the CV, you do not need to provide so much detail in your career history. The use of bullets is more important than in the chronological format, in order to give emphasis to your key skills.

The rest of the categories run in line with the standard CV format, with sections such as:

  • Career Progression / Employment History,
  • Professional Training,
  • Education & Qualifications,
  • Interests and Pastimes,
  • Personal Details,

The Hybrid CV should normally run to no more than 2 pages.
