Chronological CV

This format lists experiences in reverse chronological (time) order, this means that the most recent work experience/assignments are listed first. This reverse picture also applies to your Professional Training and Education. Chronological CVs normally do not run to more than 2 pages.

The major advantage of this approach is that it emphasises your career progression, highlighting your increasing levels of responsibility or specialisation. If you have been in continuous employment, then such progression is clear and can be an attractive feature. It is also very easy and logical to read and having been the industry standard for many years, it is widely accepted and respected.

This type of CV can be appealing if you have a track record that speaks for itself, or if you are writing to companies where traditional values are important. The major disadvantage of this approach is it highlights any gaps in your employment record and it does not highlight your key skills and achievements.
